Game of Thrones TV Show - On Game of Thrones, Joffrey was poisoned and died at his own wedding. Warning! Tyrion didn’t kill Joffrey — it was a setup. The real killer is Olenna Tyrell, or, more accurately, Littlefinger, by way of Olenna Tyrell. Joffrey’s murder was an elaborate plan that began in the Season 4 premiere, when Ser Dontos reappears to give Sansa a necklace. No one knows this... except for Olenna Tyrell (and maybe Margaery, since she does not take a sip after Joffrey hands her the goblet).
During the wedding, Olenna approaches Sansa to apologize for the death of her family at the Red Wedding.
During the scene, Olenna fondles Sansa’s necklace and discreetly palms one of the jewels, and in the next scene the jewel is missing from Sansa’s necklac. Then, while Joffrey is choking, Ser Dontos approaches Sansa and tells her to come with him if she wants to live, knowing that her necklace could implicate her. In the books, Dontos takes Sansa to a boat, where Littlefinger is waiting for her. He explains to her that he hired Dontos to give her the necklace with the poison, which was then taken by Olenna to poison Joffrey. Littlefinger then kills Dontos in order to tie up loose ends before heading off to the Vale with Sansa.
So why did Olenna murder Joffrey?
There was a pretty shocking death on the April 13 episode of ‘Game Of Thrones’ — and this is a series pretty well-accustomed to death. The death during the Purple Wedding on the April 13 episode of Game of Thrones — “The Lion And The Rose” – was pretty shocking if you haven’t read the books. ‘Game Of Thrones’ – Did Tyrion Or Sansa Kill Joffrey?

Furthermore, right before Joffrey downed the wine, he had utterly humiliated his uncle at court. 2. Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner)
Is there anybody in King’s Landing right now that Joffrey has wronged more than Sansa? Finally, at the Purple Wedding (as it is so dubbed), right before Joffrey’s death, he cruelly and vulgarly mocked the death of her brother.
Sansa’s list of motives is as long as the series of novels itself.

Let’s see — there’s Ser Dontos, once a knight and now a jester of the court whom Joffrey almost killed. Regardless of who orchestrated Joffrey’s murder, it is certain that Tyrion’s life is about to become very, very miserable at the hands of his big sister.
