Lorde Wins Two Billboard Music Awards

Young artist, Lorde, definitely deserved the Billboard Awards for Top New Artist and Top Rock Song at the big show on May 18. Lorde’s BBMA Hair & Makeup — Get Her Sleek Skin & Dark Lip Kiwi singer Lorde has taken out two categories at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards. Lorde read her acceptance speech from her cellphone. Lorde was nominated for a total of 12 awards at today's awards in Las Vegas, entering the awards as a top contender along with rockers Imagine Dragons. Three of the awards Lorde was nominated for - hot 100 song, digital song and radio song - went to Robin Thicke for his hit Blurred Lines, while Imagine Dragons beat her to four awards - hot 100 artist, rock album, rock artist and streaming song (audio). Katy Perry beat her to top female artist and top digital songs artist, while Justin Timberlake headed her to win top radio songs artist. Lorde has won two gongs at the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas and performed her song Tennis Court for the first time on television. Some people on Twitter questioned whether Lorde should have qualified for top rock song, but it spent several weeks at the top of Billboard's US Hot Rock Songs chart. She performed her New Zealand Number One Song Tennis Court shortly after winning her second award.

Lorde earlier this year won Grammy awards for best pop solo performance and song of the year awards for Royals, sharing the song of the year award with co-writer and producer Joel Little. Lorde had 12 nominations at the awards show, including Top 100 Song, Top Digital Song, Top Radio Song and Top Streaming Song for her hit single Royals. She was also nominated for Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Digital Songs Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, Top Rock Artist, and Top Rock Album for Pure Heroine. Imagine Dragons had also been nominated for Top Rock Song. Lorde has been labelled one of the biggest breakout artists by Billboard.
